National Hospital demonstrates its commitment to supporting the strengthening of Parkinson’s healthcare services in Indonesia through its support for the Indonesia Parkinson Ecosystem Forum 2026, organized by the Yayasan Sahabat Parkinson Indonesia.
Carrying the theme "Building Indonesia's Parkinson's Ecosystem: From Awareness to Integrated Collaboration," the forum, held on Tuesday (22/9) in Jakarta, brought together various stakeholders, ranging from the healthcare sector, government, professional organizations, academics, hospitals, to communities.
At the forum, National Hospital contributed through Dr. dr. Achmad Fahmi, Sp.BS., Subsp.NF(K), FINPS, IFAANS, who participated as one of the speakers. Dr. Achmad Fahmi is also recognized as a pioneer in the implementation of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease in Indonesia.
Dr. Achmad Fahmi's participation was part of National Hospital's contribution to sharing knowledge and experience in Parkinson's management, particularly regarding the role of neurosurgical interventions and DBS therapy for patients who meet the appropriate indications.
"We in the medical field are only a small part of the ecosystem of care for Parkinson’s patients. There are caregivers, families, communities, and various other forms of support. What is important is to encourage one another, build optimism, motivation, and self-confidence," said Dr. dr. Achmad Fahmi.
According to him, Parkinson's management cannot rely solely on medical interventions. Long-term support from communities, families, and caregivers also plays an important role in helping patients live their lives as optimally as possible.
"Our hope is that Sahabat Parkinson Indonesia will continue its efforts over the long term to encourage and support one another, so that quality of life can be significantly improved. Although there are DBS, therapies, and medications, what is also most important is optimism, motivation, and self-confidence," he added.
A similar view was expressed by Albert Sebastian, Chairman of Yayasan Sahabat Parkinson Indonesia. He emphasized that Parkinson’s is not only about tremors or movement disorders, but also concerns quality of life, family, work, independence, and the future of people living with Parkinson’s.
"Parkinson’s is not only about tremors and slowed movements. Parkinson’s affects quality of life, family, work, independence, and the future. Therefore, we need not merely awareness, but integrated collaboration," said Albert.
Albert also emphasized the importance of changing the perception of people living with Parkinson’s as individuals who continue to have the spirit to create, work, and contribute.
"We want to change the perception of people living with Parkinson’s—not simply as people who are surviving. We are fighters who still want to be healthy, continue to create, continue to work, and continue to contribute to our families and society," he continued.
Through the Indonesia Parkinson Ecosystem Forum 2026, Sahabat Parkinson Indonesia, together with its partners, including National Hospital, is encouraging more integrated and sustainable cross-sector collaboration. This effort is expected to strengthen support for people living with Parkinson’s and their caregivers, while contributing to improving the quality of life of Parkinson’s fighters and their families across Indonesia.
